Tuesday Tip: Set it + Don't Forget to FLAUNT it.

One of the most enjoyable things when we're done with a GLAMA makeover is when we bust out the setting spray to "LOCK IN" that grannie glow. Our grandma's sure seem to get giddy and they always have so many questions...

"WHY are you spraying my face?"

"WHAT are you spraying on my face"

"Does this mean I can wear my makeup for the next 2 days?"

As for the latter, depending on how good of a setting spray you have, you probably could (though we don't recommend it - i.e. grannies guide to good skin says to ALWAYS wash your face before you go to bed!). That said, setting sprays are a great way to finish a makeup look and can assure that when you run around all day, everything stays in place. However, how do they actually work and which sprays do we recommend?

According to Byrdie.com and makeup Artist Mia Yang,

"Setting sprays usually contain different types of polymer and some of them have alcohol. These ingredients work great to keep makeup in place for a whole day."

Online and in stores we know there are many different types of setting spray out there... alcohol- based, water-based, types with scented oils, vegan, organic.... the list goes on. To make it easy, here are our 3 top options:

1.) Green Tea SLAY ALL DAY SETTING SPRAY by Gerard Cosmetics

Get an alcohol based setting spray. To us, it what we prefer, However all alcohol based sprays are not created equally, so it's worth spending the extra buck to get a good one. Hydration is something to keep in mind when you're going for the "I want to lock this in ONCE and not have to worry about it all day" kind of spray. This pick has green tea infused in it, is also cooling and bonus it's cruelty free and made in the good old USA.

Price: $22.00 for 3.38 oz.

2.) MIST + FIX Setting Spray by Makeup Forever.

Want to stay away from alcohol all together? No problem, we've got you covered. This spray is long lasting and according to research (and our own personal testing), has a 12 hour staying power. It's also good for all skin types and is dermatologist recommended. This spray is also made with a complex helps boost oxygenation to your skin - which we have to admit, is quite nice.

Price: $30.00 for 4.22 oz.

3.) DIY - by YOU!

In a pinch and not wanting to spend, it is possible to make your very own setting spray! Though we recommend one of the options above, you can turn this into your very own DIY project. Here is what you'll need.

Simply take all the ingredients and use a funnel to place into your bottle. Note: You can add essential oils like tea tree or lavender oil to your liking. However, if you do this, please make sure to do a skin test if you've never used this particular oil (AKA you want to make sure your skin doesn't react!). Shake the bottle while closed and once you feel it's properly mixed, spray your DIY setting spray an arms distance from your face.

Price: Total cost of products $20.00 - $25.00
